Shipmates and friends:

For those of you that have not gotten the "word" Terry & I have assumed the

responsibility of the newsletter again. Tom Roseland has chosen to

disinvolve himself from the Cusk Reunion. Next Newsletter will be in Feb.

How the Cusk Reunions have evolved: A brief history!

Oct, 1990 This was the first reunion, all started by Charlie Boushley and

his wife Betty from Mesa, Az. The reunion was held in San Diego with 32 men

& 22 ladies attending. The first hospitality room was there for those

attending to meet and greet their shipmates that they had not seen is

several years. Several pictures that were taken many years ago were enjoyed.

A lot of discussion as to who was who in some of the pictures. Naturally,

the Cusk history was discussed. It was decided at this time that every two

years the group would get together to renew friendships and meet new ones.

Several of the wives were acquainted from early Navy life and those that

didn’t know everyone were welcomed to the group.

We were able to attend the Recruit Division Review at the Naval Training

Center. Some of the group spent the afternoon talking over old times at the

Chief’s club. Included was a picnic, a banquet, and a visit to the Sub

Base. Several of the people visited the Zoo & Sea World.

Oct. 1992 Las Vegas was the location of the next Cusk Reunion. The reunion

was set up by Don & Della Call with help from L.L. Speed. The group of

approx 25 men and 20 women stayed at the Maxim Hotel. Again, the Hospitality

room was our meeting and greeting place, taking pictures, telling stories

and having lots of fun, food and beverages. The group spent evenings out

together for supper and shows they enjoyed. The weather was great and

everyone had a good time.

Sept. 1994 This time the reunion was held in Bangor Wa. The Reunion was

planned by Red & Lyn Ghiseling and Mac & Mary McKenzie. The group of approx.

39 men and 26 women stayed at the Silverdale Bay Resort and the Navy Inn. We

were given a tour of the Submarine base and Trident Training Facility. One

lunch was served at the Officer’s Club. We went aboard and toured a Trident

Submarine. One special evening found us at the home of Mac & Marge McKenzie

for a fabulous salmon dinner and cocktails. Their home offered us beautiful

views of the ocean channel and sunset. The next day included tours of the

Undersea Warfare museum. Lunch was served here and that evening we enjoyed a

semi formal banquet. There were pictures and lots of fun. At the morning

farewell breakfast good byes till they all meet again. People have become

closer and wait to see, hug, and visit all over again in two years.

Oct 1996 This reunion was held at Portsmouth, New Hampshire and was planned

by Tom DeLozier and Dick Rushlow. The group had grown now to approx. 50 men

and 33 women attending plus guests. The group stayed at the Holiday Inn and

Comfort Inn. Those who traveled across the country and NH saw some beautiful

country that God as given us to see and enjoy. As always the hospitality

suite was there for all to enjoy and catch up visiting with old friends.

The 1st day was spent on a bus tour of fall foliage, the White Mountains,

shopping at a Trading Post and Lake Winnipesaukee. We had lunch at the

resort. The next day we were treated to a real "Lobster Bake" lunch with

music and entertainment. Our banquet was held at the Officers Club at the

Naval shipyard. The final day included a farewell brunch, memorial service

and good-byes.

Sept 1998 The reunion returned to San Diego with Mike & Terry Fallatt

planning the events. Approx. 55 men and 40 women attended with guests and

the stayed in "Old Town". Naturally, the Hospitality suite was open during

the entire reunion and stocked with goodies to eat and drink. Tours were

planned to the Gaslamp area of San Diego with a trolley ride and lunch at

Buffalo Joe’s. Some people ventured to Mexico for shopping and we also

enjoyed a tour of Old Town. Our banquet was held at the hotel with a USO

show and music to enjoy. Another evening took us to the Sub Base and

Smugglers Cove restaurant where group pictures were taken and a speaker

offered current information. The following day we enjoyed a Harbor Cruise

and Brunch. There were lots of sea lions, birds, and great food. The Captain

even let Mike wear his hat and coat to serve us coffee and an unforgettable

picture opportunity with Mike.

Oct 2000 This Reunion was held in Kings Bay, Ga. Greg Czech planned it with

help from Mike & Terry Fallatt. The hospitality room at the hotel was just

perfect in every way for all those Sub Vets and wives. The group of approx.

91 attendees stayed at the Quality Inn. We had an informative tour of the

Sub Base Training Center with lunch served in the galley and shopping in the

PX.

The weather was really enjoyable. Our main banquet was a nice dress up

affair with great food and speaker. A pizza dinner was impromptu & all who

came really enjoyed themselves

.
